Science Based Lift Tracker App

Overview

Science Based Lifter is a mobile app designed for athletes who train with intention people who follow evidence-based programming and want a tool that respects that approach. The project focused on designing a focused, no-fluff workout tracking experience built specifically for intermediate and advanced lifters.

about the project.

The Problem

Serious athletes training with evidence-based methods have been underserved by the fitness app market for years. Most available tools are built around casual users — they prioritize feel-good features and gamified streaks over the structured, data-driven programming that intermediate and advanced lifters actually need. Tracking progressive overload, managing training volume, and applying real scientific principles to a training block was either impossible, buried under noise, or spread across multiple disconnected tools.

Objectives

  • Translate complex career data into a language accessible to non-technical users who are new to navigating professional pathways
  • Redesign the layout to guide users through a logical flow, from understanding where they are to knowing what to do next
  • Introduce clear, contextual CTAs that surface at every meaningful data point, removing ambiguity from the user journey
  • Build in visible progress tracking so users can see their momentum and stay motivated through the career transition process

outcome.

Design

I started by exploring different visual directions that could elevate the brand without losing clarity. Before committing to one idea, I created three high-fidelity homepage concepts, each exploring a slightly different tone and layout approach.

All of them focused on structure, spacing, and calm visual hierarchy, nothing loud, nothing unnecessary. After presenting the options, I worked closely with the client to refine and choose the direction that felt most aligned with their vision. Once the direction was locked, I continued designing the rest of the pages, making sure everything felt consistent, intentional, and easy to navigate.

The final result is a website that feels more confident, more structured, and more aligned with what UK Life stands for, simple, reassuring, and trustworthy.

Objectives

  • Design a workout tracking experience grounded in science-based training principles, built specifically for athletes who know what they're doing
  • Strip the interface down to only what matters — eliminate feature bloat and create a focused, distraction-free environment
  • Make progressive overload and volume tracking feel effortless, not like manual data entry
  • Create a UI system that respects the user's intelligence without overwhelming them with complexity

outcome.

Design

The app was designed around a single principle: one focused action at a time. The interface presents exactly what the user needs at each stage of a session — no more, no less. Clean typography, strong contrast, and a restrained component library create a UI that feels precise and purposeful. The result is a training tool that serious lifters can trust: fast to use mid-session, meaningful to review post-session, and built around how evidence-based programming actually works.
